Batman Arkham City offers a variety of engaging side missions that expand the lore of Gotham, and none are quite as mysterious as the Watcher in the Wings questline. Players who look closely at the city rooftops will eventually cross paths with a silent observer known as Azrael, who leaves behind cryptic symbols for the Dark Knight to analyze. Tracking down this elusive figure requires careful exploration across four distinct regions before uncovering a final destination that reveals a chilling prophecy.

Tracking the First Two Sightings

The initial encounter begins early in the game right after leaving the courthouse, where Azrael can be seen standing on a roof directly opposite the building. Approaching him allows you to scan the mysterious sigil he leaves behind, officially kicking off the investigation. The second location takes players to the eastern portion of the Industrial District, where the mysterious figure waits patiently at the very top of the ferris wheel. Climbing this structure triggers the next brief dialogue exchange and provides the second piece of the puzzle.

Uncovering the Final Signs

For the third sighting, players must travel to the Bowery district and search the high rooftops located just north of the museum. Azrael stands near the edge of a building, waiting for the Caped Crusader to document another ancient symbol. The fourth and final standard encounter occurs in the Amusement Mile district on a high ledge overlooking the local waters. Scanning this final mark prompts the Batcomputer to automatically sync all four coordinates together, opening up a map puzzle that players must solve to reveal the final location.

Decoding the Sigil and Claiming Rewards

Once all four distinct coordinates are successfully logged, players must align the vertices of the sigil to match the exact points on the city map. This system unlocks a hidden fifth destination located on the side of the church wall, leading to a profound narrative conclusion. Completing this side mission rewards players with the coveted Mystery Stalker achievement alongside a unique Character Trophy for their collection. Furthermore, players who throw a batarang during the early encounters can unlock an extra hidden achievement called Catch as a fun bonus.
